Career opportunities for Birmingham graduates

At this stage, you should do all you can to learn about the careers that will be open to you after studying – and what qualification you will need in order to get the job you really want.

Some people already know the career path they want to take and have been planning for it since school. Others just know that they want to pursue a specific subject, regardless of what career opportunities are ahead.

International students may have other factors to consider. Requirements for a specific career in your home country may differ from those in the UK. This is particularly true of professional qualifications. In most cases, these checks are best carried out in your own country before you apply, but the International Student Advisory Service can offer advice if you require it.

Online resources such as www.prospects.ac.uk, and www.connexions-direct.com can give you ideas about which qualification will help you get the job you want. You’ll also be able to research the career paths open to you if you pursue a certain course.

And of course, the University's Careers Centre is always on hand to give you advice.

This is a great opportunity to work through some of your ideas before you apply for your course. It’s one of the most important decisions you'll make and it will affect your prospects later in life.
