Mature Students

Mature students add diversity and experience to the learning community and we encourage applications from people over the age of 21 at entry who may not meet the standard programme entry requirement.

Entry requirements

For undergraduate students your Admissions Tutor will be happy to advise on the suitability of your qualifications and experience and may invite you to attend an informal interview before you submit your UCAS form. Depending on the programme, you may be asked to take a test or bring a piece of written work.

Access course
Undergraduate students may need to take an Access course before applying. This is a pre-university course for mature students returning to study, offered by colleges country-wide.

Accreditation of Prior Learning (APL)
Through the APL process the University can give credit towards part of a programme for traditional study or course-based learning taken by an undergraduate or postgraduate student before entry. The University may also give entry to a programme through APL.

Learning that has been acquired before entry to the course through life or work experience may also be recognised, this is called Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning.

For more information please see the Introduction to APL web page at www.marketing.bham.ac.uk/admissions/apl-introduction.htm
